Hillsdale Estate is a family owned vineyard and orchard consisting of grapevines, fruit and nut orchard, plus herbs, vegetables, cut flowers and a small olive grove in the beautiful Booie region of the South Burnett, Queensland.
Hillsdale Estate is blessed with red Kingaroy soils on gentle slopes overlooking our beautiful valley. Tucked away in a perfect position at the bottom of the Booie range, we receive the benefits from the cool, sometimes frosty winters at the valley base to provide enough essential chilling, and beautiful warm, vibrant, subtropical summers for vibrant fruit flavour development. This unique microclimate allows us to grow a diverse range of produce from bananas to strawberries, wine grapes to mangos, orchids to winter bulbs – a feat not often seen in the South Burnett.
Since 2015, we have been meticulously restoring, rejuvenating and expanding our vineyard, consisting of Merlot and Verdelho (originally planted in 2006), and new plantings of Tempranillo, Vermentino, Sangiovese plus trial plots of Durif, Chambourcin, and the re-invigoration of an old heirloom variety coming into production soon!
We have been restoring the original orchard trees and gardens to cater for an extensive range of produce – from heirloom, to established and emerging varieties.
As wine producers, our philosophy is to apply science by hand; a considered combination of traditional techniques and modern knowledge. Our grapes are handpicked from our Single Block vineyard resulting in a beautiful expression of varietal characters.
Our knowledge is drawn from extensive experience in South Australia and Victoria, ranging from the wine industry and horticulture, viticulture with major Australian wine producers, to research with leading organisations such as the CSIRO and Primary Industries, combined with many years’ experience and understanding gained by working on the land and in our environment.
Our logo represents:
o The winding tendrils, branches, blossoms, nuts, berries and fruits of our trees and vines
o The rooted connection to the land
o The vibrant red earth of the renowned rich South Burnett soils
o The glass stemming from the fruits of the vines
