The Peanut Van (Kingaroy, South Burnett)
The Peanut Van: A Kingaroy Icon Since 1969
No visit to the South Burnett is complete without stopping at The Peanut Van. Established in 1969 and located at 77 Kingaroy Street, this locally owned institution has been a cornerstone of the “Peanut Capital of Australia” for over 50 years. Owners Rob and Chris Patch uphold a strict “no imports” policy, ensuring every batch consists of 100% Australian-grown peanuts processed using original family recipes for maximum crunch and freshness.
Heritage and the South Burnett Soil
The success of the local peanut industry is rooted in the South Burnett’s rich, red volcanic soils, which provided ideal conditions for early trial plantings.
- Historical Milestone: In 1922, production was so concentrated that the Marrickville Margarine Company purchased the entire regional crop in a single buy.
- Industry Growth: The Peanut Marketing Board (now the Peanut Company of Australia) was headquartered in Kingaroy in 1924, helping production climb to 814 tonnes by 1930.
- Production Records: While Australia now produces a steady 40,000 to 45,000 tonnes annually, a staggering national record of 61,464 tonnes was set in 1979.

The van offers an impressive variety of over 20 unique sweet and savoury flavours, available in snack sizes or bulk hauls.
